UK General Election 2019
A UK Parliamentary General Election will be held on Thursday 12 December 2019.
About the election
At a UK General Election you will be voting to elect a Member of Parliament. There are 650 Members of Parliament (MPs) in the UK Parliament.
Key dates
Poll cards were issued from 11 November.
If you have NOT received a poll card by 20 November it may mean you are not registered.
Postal ballot packs to existing postal voters were posted around 22 November. These need to be completed and returned by polling day.
Anyone who applied for a postal vote after 8 November should have received their postal ballot pack around 29 November.
• Registration to vote deadline - Tuesday 26 November at midnight
• Postal vote application deadline - Tuesday 26 November at 5pm
• Proxy vote application deadline - Wednesday 4 December at 5pm
The count will take place after close of poll on 12 December at the Lord Butler Leisure Centre Saffron Walden and the result will be published here.

Who can vote
To vote in a General Election you must:
• Be registered to vote
• Be 18 or over on the day of the election ('polling day')
• Be a British, Irish or qualifying Commonwealth citizen
• Be resident at an address in the UK (or a British citizen living abroad who has been registered to vote in the UK in the last 15 years)
• Not be legally excluded from voting
